Question 1: What should I bring to my medical appointment?

Please bring:
Your passport (must be valid)
Glasses or contact lenses (if you wear them)
Any medical documents or prescriptions
An interpreter, if needed
Drink plenty of water. We’ll need a urine sample

Question 2: How long will the medical examination take?

Most immigration medical appointments are usually completed within one hour.

Question 3: When will I get my results?

All results are usually back in 1-2 working days, however, some specialised tests or abnormal results may take longer. 

Question 4: Can I eat and drink before the examination?

Yes, you can eat and drink before your appointment and we recommend you drink plenty of water as we require a urine sample.

Question 5: Why do I need this Immigration Medical?

If you want to live, work or study in NZ, You need to provide an immigration medical and chest x-ray. NZ Immigration will let you know if you are medically fit to live in New Zealand.

Question 6: Can I have the exam if I have my menstrual period?

You can still attend your appointment. But you may need to have your urine test on another occasion as the menstrual blood can contaminate the urine.

Question 7: What if my results show something abnormal?

If follow-up tests are required, we’ll contact you to arrange a second visit. We’ll explain everything clearly and support you through the next steps.

Question 8: I’m not sure which service I need. What should I do?

No problem. Just fill in the appointment form and select the service you think is right. Our team will review it and help guide you to the correct option if needed.
